im planning 2 connect my pc and laptop 2gether, pc by ethernet and laptop by wireless lan, but not sure about what i need. i know i need a router but do i just get one that is both ethernet and wireless? i heard stuff about wireless access points but not sure about that. also does the router replace the modem or do connect the router 2 my modem, prob noob questions but oh well

Get a cat 5 cross over cable and save your self all those £'s or $'s.
Sure you have a cable running from one pc to the other but you dont have any security issues that wireless has.

Ok just ignore me then. routers are a piece of wee to setup, wireless will be fun but also without the correct installation will mean your network is open to the public. Single cable means there will be no chance of any security issues plus you dont have to setup default gateways and subnet masks. But what do i know ? 12 years in the buisness and 2 Microsoft Qualifcations later

k thx zait, and gunner i got a wireless card with my laptop so thinking i might aswell use it. im not really worried about the security issues with wireless cos i doubt hardly n e 1 in my area knows how 2 hack (bunch of rudeboys basically) ;D
